A hotter-than-expected consumer price index on Tuesday sent stocks reeling, with the Dow posting its biggest drop in a year. Stocks bounced back over the next two days, helped by a softer retail sales report , only to slump again on Friday's hot producer price index for January. As we said this week, we're not overly concerned with the hotter-than-expected inflationary readings. Earnings season picks back up for the Club next week, with four holdings set to report quarterly results. Fixed indexed annuity sales brought in a record $95.6 billion, up from 20% from the record hit the year prior. Indexed annuities earn interest that is calculated based on the changes within a market index, such as the S & P 500 or the Nasdaq 100. However, they also receive downside protection: They are credited zero interest if the index their annuity is tracking declines. The term of index annuities typically range from three to 15 years, according to Annuity.org . Fixed indexed annuities can also be complicated, warned David Blanchett, head of retirement research for PGIM DC Solutions.

LONDON, July 26 (Reuters) - Even as fears of a 2023 U.S. recession recede and stock market bears concede defeat, there's scant sign of party mode. After wild swings of output, prices, employment, liquidity and interest rates, firm convictions about the precise onset of "technical" recessions - or even previously reliable gauges of bull and bear markets - have all become a bit suspect. Whether on a domestic or global scale, aggregate views of the economy, or stock market, right now are likely misleading. A bull to bear market and back again in little over 18 months - or so it seems. SP 500 2023 YTD THROUGH JULY 21BLUNTEDChief among the puzzles is the variable impact of sharply higher interest rates on both households and firms.

With some 1.6 million of those due to re-fix mostly 2-5 year fixed rate deals over the next 18 months - half of those by the end of this year - this super-hike will burn. Two-year fixed mortgage rates have doubled to 6% in just 10 months and were less than 1% two years ago. Fixed-rate deals were only introduced at all in 1989 and the vast majority were floating rates until just eight years ago. As Leaviss points out, five-year inflation expectations in the bond market are still stubbornly one percentage point above the 2% goal. In the end, the BoE has few good choices - but the days of fine tuning the economy with nudges and tweaks may be over.

Crystal Cox/Business InsiderCredit card rewards come in all types, from cash back, airline miles, hotel points, and transferable points. Among people well versed in rewards credit cards, there's a bit of common knowledge: Not all rewards points are created equal. However, if you transferred your Chase Ultimate Rewards points to United, you could potentially book the same flight for half as many points. But when you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card, you get a 25% bonus in value. Best credit cards for earning transferable pointsThe best transferable-point credit card for you depends on what credit card rewards program is most appealing.
My wife and I started shopping to refinance our mortgage when fears about COVID-19 were driving mortgage rates lower, just before the Federal Reserve cut interest rates. On March 2, we looked at mortgage rates after seeing the impact COVID-19 had on the markets. The Federal Reserve cut rates but mortgage rates went upOn March 3, the Federal Reserve cut the federal funds rate by 0.5% at an emergency meeting. Rather than taking the lower rate, our loan officer allowed us to get an even larger credit and keep our 3.125% interest rate. To make things even sweeter, our mortgage rate is now 0.625% lower.
